First Experience Of Halloween Day
Halloween Day is celebrated on 31October in many countries before the Christmas eve in the western world, remembering the dead including saints, martyrs and all other faithfuls departed.
It is celebrated in different countries based on their different belief.
It is believed to have originated from an ancient Celtic festival Samhan wherein people dressed like ghosts and bonfires to keep the real ghosts away.
In the modern rendition of Halloween kids wear costumes inspired by popular culture to go for 'Trick or Treat' around the neighborhood..Generally the kids get toffee ,cookie, coins etc . in their bucket as "treat" from neighbors. Kids are so happy with new costume of horror or funny and gifts .
I first came to know about this fest 1n Austin in 2001.
I was ready with toffee & cookies. Team after team of children knock my door with "TRICK or TREAT". As the stock of toffee was not sufficient ,I told my son to buy more at the time of coming back home from office.
I saw a large group of kids entering towards my house .I asked my brother [who came from Canada to visit me,]
"Raja has not yet reached with toffee packet and only few toffees are left with me . What to do now?"
Brother : "keep some 'Quarter -coins' on separate tray with sweets to offer them ."
I did so . Some kids picked up both .I took a photo with a group; because I was a visitor mom only at that time, a tourist.
I didn't know then that my last phase of life was destined to this land !
My son entered with two big bags of Hershey and Nestle just as the last but one group left !
Next day I met some American seniors of story Circle in the library.; I shared my above experience! After listening ,they suggested as apology that I should be warned by them to keep the house dark and not to response to the door-bell!...
Some of them followed it every year to avoid the kids which was so disturbing !
I tried to plead them that that they were wrong to think that I felt disturbed . In fact, I enjoyed the presence of kids fantastically!
It was like a festival to me !
Before that fest I never knew that there were so many children in my neighborhood! It was my pleasure to see them joyful by offering meagre 'Treat'!.........
[ *This incident gave me impression that Senior women in America hardly felt any 'Isolation' or loneliness .
They are selfish by nature [! ] or circumstances ? .............I didn't know........
Why they were not ready to welcome the children to be joyful anually only for one day ?
Perhaps they love to live and stay alone. They love and prefer the facility of getting social security from government ! They feel more convenient as well as comfortable to spend within this governmental secured system.
Isolation of the seniors in America is utterly a wrong perception for pretention!
Mostly the children with costume of Spiderman , Startrek , Drake , Phantom and enjoy the fun of the festival; adding the country to become financially healthier.
In Scotland and Wales the dying embers of Halloween's fire survived for long time;
it was usual to place as many small stones as there were persons around ; next morning if any of the pebbles displaced, it was regarded that the person represented would die within twelve months.
Really Spine-chilling!!!!!!!!!
