Sipra 's Diary: Birth-Day celebrated in : "MALTA". Island

We reached in Malta on 17th May . This tour was a gift from my daughter to celebrate my B'day on 20th May!

Malta was most favorite  place of queen Elizabeth. I had no idea that it is such an old island with a history of 5, 900BCE!It is an island in Mediterranean ocean with nice weather! Everywhere I went to visit, was crowded with (mostly white)  merry-making-tourists.

Malta has been inhabited since around 5900 BC, with the first settlers believed to have come from various regions of Europe and Africa. The islands are home to some of the oldest free-standing structures in the world, including the Megalithic Temples, which date back to around 3600 BC. These temples, such as Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra, are UNESCO World Heritage Sites and reflect the advanced culture of Malta's early inhabitants2.

Around 700 BC, the Phoenicians colonized Malta, followed by the Carthaginians and then the Romans in 218 BC. Under Roman rule, Malta flourished, becoming an important trading post. After the fall of the Western Roman Empire, the islands were ruled by the Byzantines until the Arab conquest in the 9th century, which introduced new agricultural practices and the Siculo-Arabic language2.

2/3 years before the population of this region was only half a million ;but at present the population has rosed up to 640 million.

Above part of history I read & paste from internet. I read detailed history , photo & watched videos.  Really amazing! I paste only a basic short portion .  Briefly , this civilization  was older than Egypt.

Everyday we were out after late heavy breakfast & used return in the evening after dinner in different restaurants.Everyplace I visited seem to be a festival of fair:  beach, food, fun, shopping.

The drivers of 'Uber' cab were mostly from Africa, India, Bangladesh and also some were Maltese. We  went   another island named "Gozo" by ferry. My daughter and her cousin Sohini spent whole  day on the beach.  There is an ancient prehistoric temple which is famous as "Sleeping lady".It is now kept in National Archeogical Museum .

We visited innumerable old temples of BC which were discovered deep under the ground .We visited National Archeological Museum .There were many more museums & temples which we didn't go!We visited another beautiful place named Mdina .

It seems to me that there is much  prominent  influence of Muslim  art  in archeology of buildings I visited,  though Roman, Byzantine, British And many more influence left legacy.

I wish to paste the photos of the place on my birthday .
