Window!
It is so fascinating to me; from early childhood; still, have the passion to the same intensity. Whether a train or bus or car or plane if I don't get my seat beside a window, I feel fun of my whole journey is spoilt.
A window is not meant for the only outlet of air or wind, but something more. something meaningful. It gives the exposer of the outer world; for the sick, for the baby and also for the old baby like me.
Like photographs in a frame it holds a view of the neighbourhood buildings nearby, a piece of sky with various moods and colours in the high and the passers-by on road with incessant running cars.
When I first came to Manhattan, I spent almost half of the day on the side of this huge glass window of the high-rise building: Horse drawn tourist carts from central park, bunch of students with back-pack who reminded me very much of my own children; Every day at the same time with the students I used to see flocks of birds in the sky flying from the west towards east; While the students of John Jay and Mount Sinai were going from the east towards west to their college. I watched the birds curiously; The flocks swooped down like group dancers guided by some fantastic choreography to some roof on the east.
I guessed there must be some Indian Gujaratis who kept grains on the ground or roof regularly .Within 9:30 I noticed the birds again returning towards the west; right towards the direction they came. from.
The students were on the ground with their unknown soaring dreams, and the birds flying high in search of food on the ground. Walking students on the road with uncertain future and flying birds on the high with the guarantee of food;
Just both are in opposite directions with opposite aims!
Yesterday I felt too sleepy to finish the article "window!" And I lost the flow of thought that was driving me yesterday.
Who innovates window?
Wind +blow, to let free access of wind; amazing idea !
Freedom at random to enjoy the outer world with secured safety;
Perhaps our ancestors living in caves first needed the idea of a window to keep the family and themselves safe from the enemy and harsh weather. They blocked the opening of the cave with some piece of rock with a little opening on the top to let in free air and light and the sight of the enemy along with the outside world. With the time ancestors crawled out from the cave; then walked, and started marching forward ...how many years ago?..

I am now with a light electronic box on my lap having a window: world wide window, sitting on a cosy revolving chair in an air-conditioned room, browsing Antartica, Amazon, Grand Canyon or Savanna anywhere I wish; just by one click I can survey the vertual globe like a kid's toy.
Globe has come from table to lap, from lap to palm and from palm to "spectacles" and next?..... From glass to contact lens on the retina of the eye?
....By then I will be in my ethereal body requiring nothing but to watch my successors enjoying.
