" Rousseau said Man is a social animal". It was between 1740/1750.
But the famous biologist Darwin held different view. Charles Darwin was born in 1809 and died in 1882. He was an evolutionary scientist .He marveled the world with his theory, "Survival of the fittest " which is still reigning .The question raised storm to find out who are the fittest! How to judge or count down the fittest? Darwin explained what he meant by fittest. Fittest are those who adapted themselves to the environment ."Fittest "are not those who are biggest or strongest, but the "ability to adapt with the environment" . The dinosaurs could not survive as they failed to adapt due to their huge size and weight of the body in spite of being largest and most powerful, while frog and cockroaches still survived more than last 600 million years .
Like dinosaurs many other biggest and strongest creatures extinct for lack of adaptation.
If man is a social animal then why there are so many wars, commotions competitions of power happening throughout the ages in this world ? Man tended to be social only for self interest otherwise they are power-hungry.
The essence of humanity is a genetic terrorist which efficiently superimposes the weaker links. Life is not at all sharing , caring or interdependence, as we always try to portrait , pretend or preach .
Life is about winning; Based on the principle of "Eat or to be eaten". It is true in our everyday individual life , domestic life , community life , social, political financial every sphere. That's why we have to put so much 'Philanthropic ' effort to keep us united with (somewhat Mythical!) bond of love!
Though record of romantic relationship existed abundantly for centuries in art, history or literature over the universe from the age of Adam- Eve but in popular entertainment, relationships are often portrayed as a war between two sexes . Main objective of marital relationship is to exercise control over the use of money or children. Divorce is a device or weapon which gives each side more autonomy which makes marital conflict more complex. Women's freedom or divorce is social scar; though ‘divorce’ was introduced with the intention of welfare for family life.
Feminism and the introduction of birth control pill have radically changed ( demolished! ) the social structure .Still the distribution of 'controlling power' between two genders has not been settled yet ; society still has to make progress before there is truly equal distribution of power in relationship.
Sri Aurobindo said, all conflicts and confusions in human life are due to the lack of harmony. The possibility of harmony in the world may come only if the 'Unity in diversity' is unanimously accepted.
